Brothers Adam and Simon Starr grew up listening to the music of jazz greats the likes of Louis Armstrong, Ella Fitzgerald, Miles Davis, Nina Simone and Oscar Peterson, due to the influence of their late father Robin, a classically trained pianist, clarinetist and guitarist with a deep love for jazz music.

Thanks to B’nai B’rith Melbourne Lodge 1547 the community will have the opportunity enjoy the music of Adam and Simon and their groups the Erez Trio and the Melbourne Klezmer Quartet at Amazing Jazz with a Jewish Twist, a special fundraiser on Sunday, July 7 for the Melbourne branch of the Israel Commission, a B’nai B’rith initiative.

Chairperson and organiser Danielle Schilling said she planned a happy and joyful event to raise the spirits of the local Israel Commission members.

“Some of them, as they get older are feeling frightened and isolated because of the current antisemitism and are not coping very well,” Schilling said.

“They need a laugh; they feel stronger if we are together.”

This event is the largest Schilling has helped create.

When one of the members mentioned she had two nephews who are musicians, Schilling jumped at the chance to have them entertain the group while To Catch a Chef generously donated a kosher afternoon tea.

For three hours sit back, relax and listen to jazz like you’ve never heard before.
