A model Melbourne student
WHEN considering Melbourne's landmarks, many buildings come to mind. The Arts Centre's spire, Federation Square and Flinders Street Station are obvious examples, while Elsternwick's humble Jewish Holocaust Centre (JHC) is found in fewer guide books.

But it was the Holocaust museum and research centre that year 3 student Isaac Rozental chose to re-create as a model for his school project. The King David School student constructed a model of the centre — complete with a detailed replica of sculptor Andrew Rogers’ six memorial columns — in honour of his late grandfather, Holocaust survivor Ignacy Rozental, and to the delight of his 91-year-old grandmother, Irene, also a survivor. Isaac wanted to help keep the memory of Holocaust alive, and to warn his schoolmates of the dangers of racial intolerance. His model introduces the topic of the Shoah to the newest generation of Jewish children.
JHC curator Jayne Josem visited Isaac to see the model firsthand and presented him with a book on the history of the museum.
