HELPING OTHERS

A season for giving

The Sydney Jewish community is encouraged to lend a helping hand to those doing it tough this holiday season.

TWO separate initiatives aim to brighten the holiday season for those doing it tough.

Teacher Chaya Gopin is collecting new toys to distribute at the Sydney Children’s Hospital during Chanukah.

“They have a wonderful Christmas program with Santa and gifts but I would love for these children to feel special being Jewish as well,” she said.

Toys must be dropped off to program sponsor Krinskys, 173-175 Bondi Road, by December 18.

Meanwhile, real estate agent Marina Makhlin and her family will be driving to Inverell on December 22 with gifts to hand out to families affected by drought and bushfires.

She is also raising money to buy gifts locally and hand out, to help the town’s economy.

“Let’s bring some joy to our beautiful farming community in this difficult time,” Makhlin said.
