St Kilda Shule received a visit by the Governor-General of Australia, Sam Mostyn, together with her husband Simeon Beckett, on Tuesday.

The Governor-General travelled from Canberra to show support for the Jewish community of Melbourne and to meet with leaders from the Adass Israel Synagogue, Jewish Community Council of Victoria CEO Naomi Levin and the Executive Council of Australian Jewry president Daniel Aghion.

St Kilda Shule’s Rabbi Yaakov Glasman told The AJN, “The Governor-General is the highest office holder in the country so we were incredibly honoured and humbled by Her Excellency’s visit to show support for the Jewish community here in Melbourne.

“During Her Excellency’s visit we provided her with a tour of the Shule including the Torah scroll, followed by a round table discussion with Jewish communal leaders about the rise in antisemitism and ways to improve social cohesion.”
