The new gap year program can be taken in Tel-Aviv, or Jerusalem, the choice is yours. For five months, participants will share an apartment with Jews world-wide, taking a combination of volunteer/internship options four times a week, with evening Ulpan sessions thrice weekly.

One significant point of departure from other Israel-based gap year programs is the option to take Mind and Body Connection, Entrepreneurship. Israeli Military, Shvil Yisrael courses throughout the semester, but at an additional cost.

Program spokeswoman Cara Katz, landing Down Under this week and hosting information nights on Monday and Tuesday night in Sydney, pointed to international travel within the program and student to madrich ratios as significant points of difference between Aardvark and other well-known programs. “There is large amount of informal education and weekly day and regular overnight trips all of the country. The ratio of Students to Madriachs is 12:1 which is intimate. There are many opportunities for international travel within the program. This semester, the kids are traveling to Italy, Holland, Czec Republic, Germany and finally the program allows individuals to build their own program with volunteer or internship work that is of interest to them,” she said.

The program pursues a dual focus on voluntary contribution and education: “Aardvark Israel is a program in Israel that combines immersion into Israeli Society, service to the community through volunteer work and internships, and learning about Israel and Judaism through both formal academic and informal educational encounters.   “Our vision is to keep bringing more and more young Jews to Israel from all over the world and to strengthen their bond with the country and at the same time explore their own Jewish identity.”

Information night on Monday May 7, St ives East at 7:30pm or on Tuesday May 8, Bellevue Hill at 730pm.
