Our say

ABC bias is baked into its reporting rules

The federal government must force an independent review of the ABC’s entrenched bias against Israel.

We have often expressed our concerns about the reporting of the taxpayer-funded ABC when it comes to Israel.

Aunty’s coverage is frequently skewed, lacking in context or giving weight to Hamas propaganda while treating Israeli narratives as suspect.

The broadcaster brazenly rejected the IHRA antisemitism definition – imagine it doing so for definitions of hatred against any other community – and its internal complaints process leaves a lot to be desired.

Now we know that, despite its charter calling for impartiality, bias is actually entrenched into the ABC‘s reporting guidelines.

Obtained under freedom of information, the document makes for illuminating reading. There are detailed sections on supposed genocide, apartheid, occupation and famine, but none on Hamas’s deployment in civilian areas, use of medical facilities or role in Gaza aid distribution.
