Year 9 Beth Rivkah Ladies College student Pierra Gordon was formally awarded the Daniel and Joshua Szwarc Memorial Scholarship at the Access Inc. annual general meeting last month.

The scholarship was established by Barbara and Martin Szwarc to commemorate the memory of Daniel and Joshua – two children who were never able to walk due to being born with Canavan disease, but whose smiles and personalities touched the lives of many.

Access Inc. is a Jewish organisation that partners with people with disabilities to help them to achieve their goals through innovative approaches.

Pierra said her goals for the future are “to help people and make a change in the world”.

Access Inc. CEO Sharon Malecki said, “This scholarship is such a special and meaningful way to honour the memory of Daniel and Joshua, while at the same time giving a young member of our community the opportunity to start exploring their post-school options.”

Pierra will undertake her scholarship in Term 1 next year.
