Shiloh Miriam started an initiative last year post-COVID-19 lockdown to help Jewish singles meet in person. With difficulties in Melbourne’s shidduchim scene, Miriam has struggled to find a partner in such times – like many other singles.

“I decided to help others and myself to organise quality functions, well decorated to create the atmosphere and the environment for love,” she said.

Recently, she hosted an Italian-themed dinner that provided single people with the opportunity to meet other Jews in the community.

The evening started with an Aperol spritz, some ice-breaker activities, a photoshoot and an inspirational talk.

Guests then enjoyed a three-course kosher Italian meal followed by some more activities. For the remainder of the evening, guests were invited to mingle and chat with one another.

The dinner hosted 30 singles between the ages of 30 and 40, however, Miriam hopes to expand events to include individuals over 50 too.

She said the dinner was a huge success and a few matches were made throughout the evening.

Without large sponsorships or funds, Miriam organises singles functions on her own. She hopes to grow her organisation so she can host more functions.

Miriam encourages singles within the community to try one of her events in the future to have the opportunity of love.

“This is such a big mitzvah to assist singles of all ages,” she said.
