Chess players of all ages are welcome to join in the chess tournaments at ARK Centre.

Ark Centre, a community hub dedicated to fostering connections and providing enriching Jewish experiences for people of all ages, together with Chess Ideas, Melbourne’s premier provider of chess teaching and services offering a range of programs designed to develop and nurture chess talent across the city, are excited to announce the launch of a regular series of chess tournaments open to participants of all ages, with cash prizes to be won.

The tournaments will be adjudicated by Jamie Kenmure, an international arbitrator renowned for his expertise in chess competitions both locally and internationally.

ARK Centre’s Rabbi Gabi Kaltmann said they aim to bring the community together through chess.

“We know that many of our young people, as well as other community members, are passionate about the game.

“By hosting open tournaments, we hope to foster a sense of community and bring people together to play this ancient great game,” he said.

“I love how it’s a great leveller, at these tournaments we have primary school aged students playing and beating people that could be their grandparents.”

The matches will be an opportunity for chess enthusiasts of all skill levels to engage in friendly competition, improve their skills, and connect with fellow chess lovers.

The prize money is split per age group with the open tournament first prize being $350.

The next tournament is on Tuesday, August 27.
