BASKETBALL

Maccabi back on court

MACCABI Victoria Basketball Club’s junior teams are loving being back on the court.

The club’s girls’ teams in the McKinnon competition have started their summer season already, and its boys’ and girls’ teams in the Waverley Basketball Association have been playing grading games against other clubs, ahead of a nine-round summer season.

Meanwhile, the Maccabi Warriors men’s Big V team have recruited former NBL player Adam Ballinger as head coach for the 2022 season, which starts in March.

Experienced players who would like to try out for the Warriors’ division two team can register their interest by email to maccabibigv@gmail.com.

ATHLETICS

PBs produced in round two

HIGHLIGHTS for Maccabi in the second round of the Athletics Victoria Shield League at Casey Fields last weekend included PB results by Ian Revale in the U16 boys’ shot put (11.59m), and Ben Blecher in the U14 boys’ 200m (25.22 seconds) into a strong headwind.

Blecher’s time of 2:22.3 in the 800m was also impressive.

Maccabi is in equal second place on the Division 5 ladder.

JUNIOR CRICKET

Kids off to great start

THE first week of the ISEC junior cricket season began on just the right note for Maccabi-AJAX Junior Cricket Club’s teams, whose players were eager to finally get cracking after a long off-season.

The club’s girls’ teams both had wins on the same day for the first time.

There were wins and losses for the boys’ teams on November 21, and a lot of close results, including just one run being the difference in three matches.

Highlights included the club’s U15B boys’ side beating Toorak-Prahran by 16 runs, the U13A Maccabi Chargers defeating Glen Iris by one run, and in an U13B local derby, the Maccabi Colts winning by 31 runs versus the Maccabi Giants.

The next round is being held today.
