Award-winning television role

ACTOR Richard Cawthorne has won the Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts (AACTA) award for best supporting actor in a TV drama for his guest role in Foxtel’s Killing Time series, which screened late last year.

The AACTA awards — the continuation of the long-running AFI Awards — were presented at a glittering ceremony at the Sydney Opera House on January 31.

The 10-part Killing Time series was based on the life of lawyer Andrew Fraser, who rose from small-time lawyer to handling high profile cases before his world came crashing down and he spent five years in a maximum security prison for drug smuggling.

Cawthorne played criminal Dennis Allen in the series.

“Playing the bad guy is an opportunity to let loose and go a little crazy — it’s fun,” Cawthorne said in an interview at the awards function.
