Bee tea towels to support Matilda’s family
Anna Blatman felt a strong need to do something meaningful to help keep Matilda's memory alive.
Following the Bondi Chanukah massacre that killed 15 people including 10-year-old Matilda Bee Britvan, Melbourne artist Anna Blatman felt a strong need to do something meaningful to help keep Matilda’s memory alive.
Matilda’s family had asked people to share or create images of bees in her memory, as Bee was her middle name and the name she was affectionately called.
Blatman, known for her use of colour, painted a beautiful bee and had it delivered to Matilda’s family, who said they appreciated the love and support they had received from the community.
Moved by their response, Blatman decided to create a tea towel featuring the bee artwork, with the aim of raising funds for Matilda’s family.
Blatman’s website states: “Join us in honouring Matilda’s memory and supporting her family by purchasing this special tea towel. Together, we can keep her spirit alive while providing vital support to those she left behind.”
Over 200 have already been sold on pre-order. The tea towels are $30 each, with all profits going directly to Matilda’s family.
Blatman told The AJN, “After such a devastating event that occurred in Bondi on December 14, I went into mitzvah mode.
“If ever there was a time to support our community and our Sydney brothers and sisters it’s now.”
