Bikies tickled pink for breast cancer

JEWISH motorcycle and motor-scooter enthusiasts will take to the road in support of breast cancer research for the Pink Ribbon Ride later this month.
Members of the Yids on Wheels (YOW) group will ride from Brighton East to Point Cook to help raise money and awareness for the cause.
YOW member Stuart Conway said: “This is a worthwhile cause and affects all members of our community.
“The motorcycle fraternity of Victoria gets together annually for this fundraising ride and YOW is participating not only to raise money for charity, but to represent the Jewish community in this widespread community event.”
While members of the Jewish motorcycle group have participated in the ride in the past, Conway said this will be the first time YOW will take part in large numbers, with the group aiming to get 40 of its members, in addition to other Jewish riders not a part of YOW, on bikes for the event.
With a cost of $20 per rider, participants can also chose to donate more. Upon reaching the finishing point for the ride, there will be activities and opportunities for further donations.
“While we don’t know exactly how much will be raised as a result of YOW’s participation, we hope our contribution will be significant,” Conway said.
“We also hope that our participation will bring more awareness in the Jewish community of this cause and encourage Jewish motorcycle enthusiasts and non-enthusiasts alike to donate.”
To be held on Sunday, October 25, all proceeds from the Pink Ribbon Ride will go towards the Cancer Council of Victoria. Similar rides are also organised in NSW and Canberra.
The YOW contingent will meet at Cafe J’adore, 504 Centre Road, Bentleigh, at 8.30am to depart for the Pink Ribbon Ride.
