Adam Butt, a Sydney-based barrister, will deliver the 2024 B’nai B’rith Human Rights Oration in Melbourne on the afternoon of Sunday, April 7.

The subject of his Oration, Native title, racial discrimination and antisemitism in schools will enable Butt to share his insights and perspectives on these important issues. Despite his young years, he has extensive experience and has won major cases across the areas of international arbitration, commercial litigation and human rights law.

His achievements in the legal field have earned him well-deserved recognition and acclaim, including for his active community involvement. Butt worked pro bono in the landmark Brighton Secondary College case in which five Jewish students alleged that they had been subjected to bullying over five years. The federal court determined in September 2023 that the State of Victoria and the school principal breached the Racial Discrimination Act by failing to properly address antisemitism in the school. Butt’s contributions to the legal profession have had a positive and lasting impact, earning him admiration and respect from peers, clients and the wider community.

But was the recipient of the Lawyers Weekly Barrister of the Year Award in 2021 and was a finalist in 2020 and 2023. In recognition and appreciation of his commitment to the advancement of human rights, B’nai B’rith is honoured to present Butt with the 2024 B’nai B’rith Human Rights Award.
