The NSW Jewish Board of Deputies (JBD) has led condemnations of a reported threat against a Sydney mosque, with both its president David Ossip and NSW Minister for Multiculturalism Steve Kamper emphasising the importance of community safety and unity.

Ossip unequivocally condemned the alleged threat made against the Australian Islamic House Masjid in Edmondson Park.

“The NSW Jewish community unequivocally condemns the threat reportedly made against the Australian Islamic House Masjid,” Ossip said. “The alleged threat is appalling and will have caused understandable fear, distress and trauma within the Islamic community.

“A bigoted attack or threat targeted at any group of Australians is an attack on us all. No Australian should have to fear for their safety when attending their place of worship.”

Kamper echoed similar sentiments, stating, “This threat on our Muslim brothers and sisters is incredibly concerning. The NSW Government and the NSW Police Force are taking this matter incredibly seriously.

“Acts designed to intimidate and divide have no place in our society. Importantly, places of worship should always be a safe haven for our community. No matter your ethnicity, religion, or country of birth, we are all bound – first and foremost – by our common commitment to Australia.”

NSW Police are currently investigating the reported threat, with authorities stressing the seriousness of the incident.

Ossip noted that the JBD has spoken with the Australian National Imams Council to directly condemn the incident and extend support to the Islamic community.

Both leaders unequivocally condemned Islamophobia, pledging to continue supporting communities to ensure their protection and safety.
