Lynda Ben-Menashe has left the NSW Jewish Board of Deputies.

Former NSW Jewish Board of Deputies (JBOD) head of engagement Lynda Ben-Menashe will leave an annual gift to the organisation to “continue the professional development of the people who will come after me”.

Ben-Menashe, who performed several roles at JBOD over the past 14 years, left the state roof body at the end of last year.

“It has been my great privilege to serve this community and the wider community through the Board for such a long time,” she said.

“I have learned so much from all those who were my colleagues, friends and allies in the fight to defend and protect our community.”

Ben-Menashe said her work at JBOD “was motivated by the desire to make every member of our society feel that they are respected, included and treated fairly”.

“To paraphrase Rabbi Tarfon, it is not my responsibility to finish this work, but neither am I free to desist from it. One way I wish to do so is by leaving the Board an annual gift to continue the professional development of the people who will come after me,” she said.

“I am sad to be leaving the Board, but look forward to new collaborations which will enrich both our Jewish community and Australia generally.”

JBOD president Lesli Berger said Ben-Menashe had been “a key member” of the organisation throughout her 14 years there.

“During this time, she developed and led a number of core programs, including among many others, the We Are All Sydney community leadership program, the Talking About Israel course, the Jews From Arab Lands events and the Shared Table Project,” he said.

“JBOD will continue the important work Lynda began and continued for so many years and will ensure the relationship between the Jewish community and other ethnic and faith groups and NGOs remain strong.”

Wishing her all the best for her future on behalf of JBOD, Berger concluded, “We thank her for her outstanding service to the organisation and the community.”
