Boston, Breslow win World Series
BOSTON pitcher Craig Breslow has entered a rare group of Jewish baseball stars to have taken out the Major League Baseball (MLB) World Series, after his Red Sox came from behind to defeat St Louis 4-2 in the seven-game championships.
Despite a disastrous series that saw Breslow get hit for several runs, he still joined the likes of legends Hank Greenberg, Sandy Koufax and Al Rosen as World Series winners.
“The opportunity to have [won the series] in front of the home- town fans at Fenway Park feels so special,” Breslow wrote on his blog for Boston radio station WEII.
“Winning the World Series is obviously the culmination of a spectacular season and it was great that the win, like the season itself, featured contributions from so many of our players.”
Meanwhile, Brad Ausmus, who managed the Israeli national team in its bid for a place at the World Baseball Classic, has taken over the reigns of MLB side, Detroit Tigers.
Ausmus was a catcher for four teams during his playing days in America and will take over from former coach Jim Leyland, who was stood down after the Tigers’ loss to Boston in the American League Championship Series.
“This guy was born to manage,” Tigers’ General Manager Dave Dombrowski said.
“You could tell he was going to be a manager many years ago. He actually provided more leadership than many young players would when he was out there.”
