The Museum Shop, located within the Sydney Jewish Museum, houses a wide variety of Pesach Judaica, seder essentials and children's activities to help your family celebrate in a meaningful way.
For 140 generations, Jewish families and friends have come together to sit and recline at the seder table. In 2022 in Australia, Passover is a unifying, uplifting experience that brings together different Jewish traditions from all around the world.
Every item on a seder table speaks
From the table setting to the seder plate, matzah covers and more, each have real meaning. Importantly, themes such as a Jewish homeland, family, remembrance of Jewish history, social justice, and freedom are all symbolically represented during the Passover seder.
Every seder table is unique
From heirlooms to wedding gifts and the most modern pieces, the seder table is unique to each family and its traditions. Each family observes Pesach a little differently. Some leave a kiddush cup waiting for prophet Elijah to visit. Some leave a cup of water for Moses’s sister, Miriam – a new feminist tradition symbolising the importance of women during the Exodus. On the chairs, you might see pillows – to recline in comfort at the table as a symbol of being free.
A seder table for the next generation
Passover is a chance to connect and teach the next generation. The Museum shop at the Sydney Jewish Museum has silverware classics to hand down, and many other traditional objects. There are also seder items for children – from face masks to headbands telling the story of the 10 plagues. With lots of games and books, children will remain engaged through even the longest seder.
The shop also has the practically-minded covered, with a range of unbreakable, disposable and easy-to-travel Pesach Judaica. There is a range of Haggadot – simple volumes for everyone at the table, as well as more precious volumes to take the place at the head of the table.
The Museum shop showcases modern designers such as Laura Cowan, Joy Stember and Jessica Sporn, as well as trusted traditional designers like Michael Aram and Yair Emanuel – allowing you to create a seder table that’s unique to your family, its heritage and your style.
