AS Australia’s cruising season gets underway with more than 70 cruise ships offering a variety of voyages until March, one of the popular attractions are the live musical theatre shows performed on some of the bigger ships.

Among the Broadway-style shows being performed at sea are Frozen: A Musical Spectacular on Disney Cruise Line’s Disney Wonder on Australian and New Zealand voyages.

The full-length retelling of Anna and Elsa’s adventure in Arendelle features dazzling costumes, enchanting production numbers and special effects.

Also on Disney Wonder is Disney Dreams – An Enchanted Classic featuring show-stopping scenes from Disney classics including Peter Pan, Pinocchio, Cinderella and Aladdin.

The nightlife of Paris comes alive in Persephone aboard Virgin Voyages’ Resilient Lady.

Crystal Symphony will return to Australia and New Zealand in December under the A&K Travel Group banner following a multi-million-dollar refurbishment. Among the live shows is a spectacular musical that draws on the hits of popular Broadway productions.

Cunard’s Queen Elizabeth has a range of live shows on its summer cruises in Australia and New Zealand including circus troupe Circa performing action-packed acrobatics.

Virgin Voyages, which makes its debut cruising around Australia and New Zealand next month with Resilient Lady cruising from her home port in Melbourne, is staging a new production titled Persephone.

A classic Greek story of Persephone’s journey of exploration is given a modern twist with lavish costumes and a rock’n’roll beat.
