Calling budding artists
"The Rosh Hashanah card competition is one of our favourite initiatives," AJN editor-in-chief Gareth Narunsky said.
With Rosh Hashanah approaching, it is time for younger members of the community to put their minds to one of the festival’s most important traditions.
Of course, we’re not talking about blowing the shofar or dipping apples in honey.
We’re talking about putting textas, crayons or pencils to paper for The AJN’s annual Rosh Hashanah card competition, creating a design that captures the spirit of the chag.
“The Rosh Hashanah card competition is one of our favourite initiatives,” AJN editor-in-chief Gareth Narunsky said.
“We look forward to receiving all the entries and seeing how creative they all are each year.
“It’s fantastic to see the community’s youth – our future – engaging with their Judaism and getting so excited about the chagim.”
The winner will receive a prize and their design will feature on greetings sent to VIPs locally and overseas, including the Prime Minister of Australia and the President of Israel.
A new element to the initiative this year is an accompanying poetry competition. Aspiring writers are encouraged to pen a heartfelt poem about Rosh Hashanah, with a maximum of 12 lines. The winning poem will be part of The AJN’s greeting.
Last year’s card competition winner was Naomi Zohar from Kesser Torah College in Sydney.
