FOR those looking to learn how to make a philanthropic impact, JCA, United Israel Appeal (UIA) and Australian Jewish Funders (AJF) are inviting emerging leaders and philanthropists aged 25-40 to join the Philanthropy Fellowship.

The six-week course explores trends in philanthropy, collective giving and community building to inspire emerging leaders.

A 2014 North American study found that in the next five to 10 years, 75 to 90 per cent of senior Jewish community leaders will retire or leave their positions.

The Australian community is expecting a similar trend, so the need to welcome a new generation of community leaders is crucial to ensuring our continuity.

The fellowship program will empower skilled leaders and provide tools and strategies for those wanting to become leaders within the community.

UIA CEO Yair Miller said: “This unique program and partnership enables younger philanthropists in our community to develop their critical thinking, gain a deeper understanding of the larger organisations in our community and appreciate the latest thinking in this deeply personal space.

“UIA is proud to have pioneered this program and to be working with the JCA and AJF to allow our next generation of donors to develop and connect in new and meaningful ways.”

JCA CEO Alain Hasson added: “Our future depends on the continued engagement of a generation of people who not only understand why giving is important to them, but also why it is important to our community. As we become more global as a society and community, we cannot forget how important it is to ensure that Jewish life in NSW and ACT, and all of Australia, remains vibrant and secure.

“The Philanthropy Fellowship connects current and future philanthropists with leaders who are already committed and knowledgeable in the space to share ideas and learn and grow together.”

Some of the program’s benefits include networking opportunities and engagement with like-minded peers, access to an unparalleled network of Australian and international Jewish leaders in philanthropy, gaining insight into the history and impact of UIA and JCA in Sydney and in the Australian Jewish community, as well as access to new tools, approaches, learnings and collaborations to grow effective philanthropy.

The program concludes with a night of giving, when participants will collectively decide on a UIA/JCA project to support.

The Philanthropy Fellowship begins on Wednesday, October 12 and runs for 8 weeks. For those interested in applying visit bit.ly/2022-fellowship – registration closes September 19.
