Campaign posters defaced with Nazi symbols
'The defacement of my campaign posters with Nazi symbols and a Hitler moustache is deeply disturbing and has no place in Wentworth or anywhere in Australia,' Ro Knox says
Campaign posters for Liberal candidate Ro Knox have been defaced with Nazi symbols and a Hitler moustache in Rose Bay, the latest in a series of incidents amid rising antisemitism in Australia.
The vandalism, which includes illegal Nazi symbolism under NSW and Australian law, has been reported to police amid fears of escalation following several violent antisemitic incidents in Jewish areas recently.
“The defacement of my campaign posters with Nazi symbols and a Hitler moustache is deeply disturbing and has no place in Wentworth or anywhere in Australia,” Knox said in a statement. “This kind of hate and vandalism is completely unacceptable, and I call on all candidates and parties to stand against it. We have reported this incident to the police.”
The incident comes amid heightened tensions in the Wentworth electorate, which has one of Australia’s largest Jewish communities.
Incumbent Member for Wentworth Allegra Spender told The AJN, “I unequivocally condemn any defacing and vandalising of political posters.”
Police are yet to respond formally to the complaint lodged by Knox’s campaign team.
