Nova Festival survivor Michal Ohana, who was in Australia to light a memorial candle on the first anniversary of October 7, is now organising a heartfelt GoFundMe campaign to support the family of Osher and Michael Vaknin.

The Vaknin twins were the organisers of the Nova Festival and were tragically murdered on October 7, and their family is working to raise funds to cover the cost of a Torah in their honour to be dedicated to a shul in Jerusalem, hopefully in time for Chanukah.

“I want to help these brothers because they were like my big brothers,” Ohana told The AJN.

“Osher was the father of a baby daughter and I want to try do everything to help their family. I know they died at the Nova Festival because they stayed in the area to help others get out, and now we need to help them.”

Through her GoFundMe campaign, Ohana is not only raising money for the Vaknin family, but also sharing her own experience of loss, survival, and the need for solidarity in the face of tragedy. She is a powerful voice for the victims of this event and a crucial part of the effort to keep their memories alive.

“It’s hard, but i think it’s my healing when i share my story and talk about what happened to us on October 7,” said Ohana.

“I feel better now; this is my therapy.”

Ohana said Nova survivors continue to meet every Wednesday as they continue to work through their trauma.

“We meet, we talk, we do therapy, yoga and pilates,” she said.

“Just being together is the best for us.”
