Celebrations are underway at Chabad Youth after a successful 24-hour fundraising drive helped the organisation to purchase its very own campsite.
CELEBRATIONS were underway at Chabad Youth this week after a 24-hour fundraising drive pulled in donations of over $1.1 million to help the organisation purchase its very own campsite.
Located in the Great Dividing Range between Bright and Mount Hotham, the site the group has set its heart on has furnished lodges, a commercial kitchen, a conference centre, an indoor pool, a basketball court, a squash court, two classrooms, a laundry and a reception area.
The total cost is $2.2 million but Chabad Youth director Rabbi Moshe Kahn said with more than half that amount raised in this week’s 24-hour hour online fundraiser, it’s no longer a dream, the site will be bought.
“We’re now approaching other donors to make up the shortfall and it’s definitely going to happen,” he said.
Though Chabad Youth initially set a target of $1 million for its appeal on charidy.com, the total raised was more than $1,135,000, with over 1000 people making donations. According to Rabbi Kahn, one pledge of $50,000 came in as a direct result of the donor reading the story in last week’s AJN.
“I want to thank the entire community for their generosity and for believing in us,” said Rabbi Kahn. “I also want to thank all the volunteers who have helped out and you at the AJN for your support. The response has been incredible, and it’s been truly, truly humbling.”
