Caulfield fours win title
JEWISH female lawn bowlers Jean Meltzer and Marion Pekelman were part of the Caulfield Park team that took out the women’s fours event at the Bowls Victoria State Champions Week in Bendigo last week.
JEWISH female lawn bowlers Jean Meltzer and Marion Pekelman were part of the Caulfield Park team that took out the women’s fours event at the Bowls Victoria State Champions Week in Bendigo last week.
Meltzer and Pekelman joined skipper Ann McCarthy and Desiree Macaulay to represent the Sandbelt Region after winning their way through the preliminary rounds.
Caulfield Park defeated Yarraville/Footscray from the Metro West Region in a tie-breaker in the first round, before going on to defeat Murray Downs from the Murray Valley Region in the quarterfinal.
The team then had another close encounter in its semifinal against Yarrawong/Mulwala from the Ovens and Murray Region, but was able to claw its way ahead to set up an enthralling final against Portland from the West Coast Region.
Caulfield Park found itself 7-0 down after five ends, but was able to work its way back into the contest and eventually win 17-14 after the completion of 15 ends.
