CAULFIELD Hebrew Congregation has stood down a staff member over a serious allegation.

The synagogue’s board released a statement on Monday night (March 21) after rumours had begun to circulate in the community.

“Last week, Caulfield Hebrew Congregation (CHC) became aware that an allegation had been made against a CHC staff member. In accordance with our policies and reporting obligations, we immediately began working with the appropriate authorities,” the statement said.

“The staff member has been stood down pending the investigation by those authorities.

“The matter is now the subject of ongoing external processes, and the Board continues to be guided by the relevant authorities.”

The AJN understands the staff member in question was in shule as recently as Purim.

The board has encouraged anyone with concerns to reach out to contact president Howard Zeimer or to contact Victoria Police.
