Celebrating Jewish music with Ensemble Liaison
'What makes this trio so special is that they've been performing together for 20 years now. Just like any relationship develops over time, the better you know someone, the deeper the musical conversation can go.'
Described as “a kaleidoscopic journey from Ravel’s spiritual Kaddish to fast-paced klezmer, from the majesty of Brahms to the Jewish inspired melodies of [Elena] Kats-Chernin”, the next Live at the Great and Toorak concert celebrates 20 years of Ensemble Liaison, made up of power couple Australia’s hottest clarinetist, David Griffiths, and dynamo cellist, Svetlana Bogosavljevic and their friend, brilliant pianist Timothy Young.
Bohemian Rhapsody will take audiences through a setlist of Ensemble Liaison’s greatest hits, including Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess and Kats-Chernin’s Russian Rag.
“It’s a wonderful treat the Ensemble Liaison have chosen to focus on Jewish music for this tour as they’re performing at the Great in Sydney and at Toorak Shule in Melbourne. David Griffiths is a virtuosic classical clarinetist with a special love of klezmer, so it’s very apt that they’ve chosen a very groovy programme with a focus on Jewish music,” founder of Live at Yours, renowned conductor and pianist Vladimir Fanshil, said.
“What makes this trio so special is that they’ve been performing together for 20 years now. Just like any relationship develops over time, the better you know someone, the deeper the musical conversation can go.
“The sum is equal to more than the parts and since the trio is made up of soloists in their own right, the result is spectacular.”
Birthday cake will be served in both Sydney and Melbourne to celebrate the trio’s milestone, and in Melbourne, there’s even a new gin bar onsite before the concert bringing another dimension to a wonderful night out.
Bohemian Rhapsody, Ensemble Liaison 20th Anniversary tour is at The Great Synagogue on September 3 and Toorak Shule on September 5. For tickets: liveatyours.com.au
