South Caulfield Hebrew Congregation’s president Harold Goldberg is pleased to announce the celebration of its 75th anniversary.
Formed in the 1940s with services held in Winston Avenue, Caulfield South, the congregation moved to its current position in Leopold Street, South Caulfield, in 1962.
It is known for its warm greetings and its traditional Orthodox Zionist liturgy.
The anniversary event will be a Gala Dinner held on Sunday, September 8.
Goldberg said, “We are not just celebrating the 75th anniversary, at the same time we will be honouring Harvey and the late Sarah Bruce for their dedicated service over 60 years.
“We are very pleased to have the Honourable Alexander Downer AC former minister of foreign affairs deliver the keynote address,” he added.
As part of the anniversary celebrations, the shule is announcing the launch of Vision 75, which is a new development fund to create a community centre within the shule grounds.
The shule has a strong relationship with the United Jewish Education Board, Mount Scopus Memorial College and other Jewish community organisations.
“Many individuals contributed to our growth and success, whether they are ex-board members, donors, founding members and supporters as well as those that have celebrated milestone events with our community, Goldberg said.
“We would like to reach out to the general community, and our present and past families and members to join with us to celebrate this memorable and honourable occasion.”
The Gala Dinner will take place on Sunday September 8, from 5-10pm.
