Hundreds of celebrities have signed a letter to US President Joe Biden thanking him for his “unshakable moral conviction, leadership, and support for the Jewish people” while also calling for no hostage to be left behind, regardless of their nationality.

“We are heartened by Friday’s release of the two American hostages, Judith Raanan and her daughter Natalie Raanan and by today’s release of two Israelis, Nurit Cooper and Yocheved Lifshitz, whose husbands remain in captivity,” the letter starts. “But our relief is tempered by our overwhelming concern that 220 innocent people, including 30 children, remain captive by terrorists, threatened with torture and death.”

The letter refers to the Hamas massacre as “savage” and explains that the Jewish people have been “terrorised by Hamas since the group’s founding over 35 years ago,” and praise the President for his support also of the Palestinian people who have been “terrorised, oppressed and victimised by Hamas for the last 17 years that the group has been governing Gaza”.

While many of the signatories are Jewish, there are numerous non-Jewish celebrities who have put their name to the letter, including Bradley Cooper, Chris Rock and Constance Wu.
