Chabad Youth Victoria has raised more than $1 million during its annual giving day, setting a new fundraising record for the organisation.

The organisation’s Director, Rabbi Moshe Kahn, confirmed the impressive tally had reached $1,055,346 at the time of the AJN interview, with 990 donors contributing to the cause.

“It’s definitely a record for our Annual Giving Day,” Rabbi Kahn said. “We’ve done bigger fundraisers in terms of the capital appeal [for buildings], but in terms of an ongoing giving day, that’s definitely a record.”

“I was warmed and grateful and thankful. What’s always surprising and always heartwarming is the people that donate that you were not thinking of or expecting”, he said.

The funds will support Chabad Youth’s extensive range of programs across the community, including university campus initiatives, youth camps, and young professional groups.

“We just finished an incredible summer where we had 2,100 plus people, over 20 camps,” Rabbi Kahn explained.

“Out of those people, we give out hundreds and hundreds of subsidies, and no child ever misses out on one of our camps.”

When asked about the organisation’s success in attracting such significant community support, Rabbi Kahn attributed it to the dedication of his team and volunteers.

“We’ve got a very strong, dedicated team, plus hundreds of volunteers that really give to the community and work for the community in a very tireless way,” he said.

“I think that’s appreciated by the community.”

Chabad Youth, which describes itself as the largest Jewish youth organisation in Australasia, offers programs catering to diverse age groups and religious affiliations within the Jewish community.

“There’s no other organisation with such a diverse offering under one umbrella,” Rabbi Kahn said.

“When you talk about youth, we call ourselves a youth organisation. It’s such a broad word. It is from little kids all the way to young families and every age in between.”

Rabbi Kahn emphasised that Chabad Youth’s mission centres on engagement.

“Our goal is not about coercion or transformation. We want just people to celebrate who they are, to bring out the best of who they are,” he said.

“We want everybody to be the best version of themselves.”
