Cohen and Sher to lead new board
"We, as a board, are committed to seeing this community flourish with a strong, vibrant and diverse Jewish day school at its heart."
A MIX of fresh faces and experience on Masada College’s board of directors, plus a shift to joint presidents, are a result of the Jewish school’s AGM, which was held on June 26.
After five years serving as the board’s president, Daryl Dorfan will transition the role to the new co-presidents, Danny Cohen and Howard Sher, while Greg Reinhardt will continue as vice-president, alongside newly appointed Jeremy Lewis.
The appointed board includes senior communal leaders, professionals and community-minded parents, who will work together to represent the interests and evolving needs of the college’s diverse community.
Past Masada board members Terry Evian, David Freedman, and Alix Toynton, return, and will be joined by Jonathan Bass, Jeremy Lewis, Craig Maltz, Trevor Pogroske and Vanessa Sher.
The incoming board thanked Dorfan, and board members Simon Griesz, Vadim Gurevich, Anne Hastings and Oren Nachman, for their years of dedication and service to Masada College, and looked forward to their continued involvement via sub-committees and direct engagements.
In a joint statement, co-presidents Cohen and Sher said, “Masada College forms the backbone of our north shore Jewish community, and continues to deliver exceptional academic and social outcomes for its diverse student body.
“We, as a board, are committed to seeing this community flourish with a strong, vibrant and diverse Jewish day school at its heart.
“Whilst cognisant of the challenges facing all Jewish schools, we see a significant opportunity to uniquely position the college for continued success, and a long-term future.”
Over the last year, Masada College has seen renewed momentum and vibrancy, owing to the leadership of principal Mira Hasofer – who joined the school last July – and her team.
“This, together with the newly appointed board, sets Masada College and the north shore Jewish community up for a strong and exciting next chapter.”
