With winter fast approaching and COVID-19 cases remaining high in the community due to the Omicron BA.2 strain, Monash Health’s South East Public Health Unit – together with Glen Eira City Council, Sandringham Ambulatory Care Centre and Hatzolah – are putting on two community wellness days.

The days will take place on Sunday, May 29 from 10am-4pm, and Wednesday, June 8 from 12-6pm.

On offer at the events will be COVID vaccinations and boosters as well as flu vaccinations for people over 65. There will also be nurses and doctors on site to answer vaccination-related questions, and give CPR and first aid demonstrations, as well as guest speakers.

The event will take place at Hatzolah HQ at 320 Orrong Road.

Monash Health explained that staying up to date with your COVID-19 vaccinations will give maximum protection against the virus and help prevent spread to family and friends. They also highlighted that if you have tested positive for COVID-19, you should wait three months from confirmed infection before receiving your next scheduled vaccine dose.

Professor Rhonda Stuart, director of Monash Health’s South East Public Health Unit, said, “The best way to protect yourself and your loved ones from becoming severely ill this winter is being up to date with your COVID-19 vaccinations, which includes a booster dose if eligible, and having your annual flu vaccination.”

She clarified that “the COVID-19 vaccine and influenza vaccine are separate vaccinations but can safely be administered on the same day at the same appointment.”

Hatzolah will also be launching a new defibrillator in conjunction with Defibs Plus on the day. The new defibrillator, called the CellAED®, can fit in the palm of your hand and has an RRP of just $359, compared to other defibrillators that can cost thousands of dollars.

Hatzolah general manager Leon Landau explained that the CellAED is easy to operate, with just three simple steps.

Hatzolah will giving away two of these new defibrillators at the community wellness days. Each person vaccinated on each day goes into a draw to win.

Landau said, “We would like to invite everyone to join us at the Hatzolah and Monash Health community wellness day. COVID and flu vaccinations are key to us protecting ourselves, the vulnerable in our community, and living with COVID. We truly are Better Together.”
