ALL Things Equal has just launched an all abilities cooking school. Starting last week, the Balaclava cafe is running 16 weeks of cooking classes for young people with a disability and will be working their way through several popular cuisines including south-east Asian and Middle Eastern.

Classes will be offered to 12 participants per semester, aiming to help them master cooking skills and up-skill, thereby opening up employment opportunities to them in the hospitality sector.

The cooking school will revolve around structured classes each week with two chefs per class, and will include recipe testing and the development of cooking and kitchen skills.

All Things Equal operations manager Bianca Stern told The AJN, “Since opening our cafe 12 months ago, the community response has been fantastic. We’re really keen to continue up-skilling young persons with disability to support them in gaining meaningful employment.”

She added, “Many young persons with disabilities are dying to find a job, they just don’t receive a fair opportunity. We’re giving these capable young people the platform to receive training, increasing their employability.

“We have had an enthusiastic response to our cooking school and are excited by the number of applicants we have had.”
