Correcting a photo mix-up
'It’s an honour which you don’t expect and when it comes out of the blue'
The AJN extends our sincere apologies to Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) recipients Peter Lewis and Stephen Marks of Victoria, for printing incorrect photos last week of the two honourees.
Lewis received his award for service to the community through a range of organisations.
He has had a long association with Rotary as a member, a benefactor and through holding several leadership positions. He also served as a director of Sholem Aleichem College between 1986 and 1994.
“As a Rotarian for 45 years, a Freemason 40 years and a Justice of the Peace of 33 years, I have strong views in relation to community service,” he told J-Wire.
“I come from a traditional Jewish upbringing and often reflect on how lucky my family and I are in this great country when compared to what my late grandparents and great-grandparents went through with the atrocities of the first and second world wars.”
Marks was honoured for service to the community through a range of roles, including long associations with the St Vincent’s Institute of Medical Research and Chisholm Institute. He is also a former board member of Jewish Care Victoria.
He told J-Wire, “It’s an honour which you don’t expect and when it comes out of the blue, it’s very nice to feel that you’ve been recognised for what you’ve done, but it’s really for everyone else and it’s not just for me.”
