A TRIAL date has been set for alleged child molester David Cyprys.

At a directions hearing last Friday, Judge Sue Pullen ordered the 44-year-old to stand trial on July 29 next year and extended his bail until May 11, when the final directions hearing will take place.

The former Yeshivah College (Melbourne) security guard will contest 41 charges, including rape, indecent assault and gross indecency against 12 alleged victims aged between seven and 20 during the 1980s.

Manny Waks, who claims he was molested at the college, said “another milestone has been reached today in the Yeshivah child sexual abuse scandal. I am delighted to see yet another step forward in this ongoing fight for justice and another step towards some sort of closure for the [alleged] victims and their families.”

Waks added that he would continue to advocate for victims of sexual abuse. “I intend to continue leading this ongoing campaign to uncover the extent of the ongoing child sexual abuse that has occurred over many years.

“There are still a number of perpetrators who are yet to face justice and many victims who are still suffering. We need to facilitate an awareness campaign about this critical issue so that the wrongs of the past are never repeated and that those who are responsible for past wrongs are held to full account.”
