Creative technology makes learning fun

Digital technology and robotics is now the norm in classrooms at Mount Scopus Memorial College.

Creating and using digital technology and robotics excites young learners like nothing else.

At Mount Scopus Memorial College, students have been learning, making and creating with the very latest software and hardware.

Creative Technology Leaders at each primary campus ensure all students have the opportunity to grow the way they look at innovation, creativity and the integration of technology to enhance learning. Students have explored 3D design and utilised new 3D printers to demonstrate their learning journeys. Younger students have inquired into coding, from simple block coding to more complex languages such as Java and C#. Students also explore their creative passions through photography, filmmaking, podcasting and game design.

During Digital Fun Club at Gandel Besen House, year 2 student Digital Leaders support their peers from Prep, year 1 and year 2 to develop confidence in problem solving using apps and tools. These student leaders facilitate mini tutorials and encourage the safe and responsible use of technology. Year 3 students in the Discovery Centre are engaging in leadership opportunities by filming a weekly DC News episode, where they gain skills in interviewing, writing scripts and presenting information. The year 9 Animation elective class has also created armatures out of wire and clay to make claymation stop motion animation films.

Robotics has also enjoyed an upgrade with a set of Sphero Bolts with a wider range of programmable features, as well as Hummingbird kits that allow students to design and build robotic devices. Students particularly like Maker’s Empire which allows them to make basic three-dimensional sculptures using digital sculpting tools.
