The Community Security Group Victoria’s Jewish Emergency App (JEAP) played a crucial role in the swift arrest of a suspect following Friday night’s arson attack on East Melbourne Hebrew Congregation.

A member of the Jewish community spotted the alleged perpetrator within an hour of his image being distributed.

CSG Victoria CEO Justin Kagan said the organisation distributed an image of the suspect via JEAP on Saturday evening, leading to his identification and arrest in the city.

“Within an hour, a community member who had seen the alert spotted the individual in the city and promptly notified police, resulting in a swift arrest,” Kagan said.

“This is a powerful example of how an alert and connected community can play a crucial role in keeping us all safe.”
