CSG has raised its National Threat Level to SEVERE, meaning the community is on heightened alert, in light of the war in Israel.

In a statement released to The AJN late Monday afternoon, CSG assured: “This increase is not based on any specific information relating to a threat against the Victorian Jewish Community, but rather as a precautionary measure.

“We want to assure our community that we are increasing our physical presence and have staff and volunteers working around the clock, behind the scenes to secure the community.”

CSG has been in constant contact with Victoria Police since the escalations in Israel began – “and together we are working to ensure Jewish Victorians can go about their lives without fear,” read the statement.

“We are closely monitoring the international and local environment and are ready to respond to any situations that may arise, but we still need your help. Please report any antisemitism or suspicious behaviour to the CSG immediately via the JEAP app or by calling CSG’s 24/7 Emergency Hotline on 1300 000 274.”

Victoria Police Assistant Commissioner Russell Barrett confirmed that while as yet there have been “no reports of incidents or threats in Victoria”, the force “is aware of the incidents and ongoing conflict in Israel… [and] retains close communications with the Israeli community in our state.”

“We are mindful of the potential for escalating tension including at places of worship and will continue to work with our partners, including CSG, to monitor the situation and ensure local police have been briefed to respond according,” he said.

“Victoria Police takes all reports of threats or violence extremely seriously and strongly encourages the community to report any incidents of concern.”

In an emergency, call Triple Zero (000) and then contact CSG’s 24/7 Emergency Hotline on 1300 000 274.
