Dayenu marches in Mardi Gras
Jewish LGBTQ group Dayenu joins Sydney Mardi Gras after security concerns addressed.
Jewish LGBTQ social group Dayenu marched in the Sydney Mardi Gras parade on Saturday night after organisers, community leaders and police worked to address security concerns that had initially led the group to withdraw.
NSW Jewish Board of Deputies CEO Michele Goldman, who marched with the Dayenu contingent, said it was “incredibly uplifting”.
“In the wake of the Bondi terror attack, it is more important than ever that Jewish Australians stand visible, proud, and resilient,” she said.
“We are grateful to the Mardi Gras Board and organisers for working closely with Dayenu to make their return to the parade possible. We also thank the NSW Police for safeguarding the marchers and helping ensure a safe and seamless evening for everyone.”
Dayenu had initially withdrawn from the parade over safety concerns following the Bondi Beach terror attack and ongoing tensions within the LGBTQ+ community.
