JEWISH Aid Australia (JAA) chief executive Gary Samowitz handed Queensland Premier Anna Bligh a cheque for $100,000 last week to help those affected by the floods six months ago.

Samowitz said the JAA launched its own appeal during the floods to support the Queensland Premier’s Flood Relief Appeal and two Aboriginal communities affected by flooding in northern NSW.

“I was proud to represent the Jewish community in this powerful gesture of camaraderie and goodwill,” Samowitz said.

Bligh told Samowitz she was inspired by the contribution of the Australian Jewish community and other ethnic and religious groups.
