FUTSALROOS
Ezekiel makes squad

Hakoah Futsal Club’s Robbie Ezekiel was added to the 14-man Futsalroos squad for their upcoming AFF Futsal Championship campaign in Vietnam – which starts on April 3 – joining his clubmate Jono Barzel.

Unfortunately, Jewish player for the Mascot Vipers, 19-year-old Ethan De Melo, was a late withdrawal, following pre-departure medical, COVID, and fitness tests.

Ezekiel, Barzel, and De Melo are members of Australia’s 2022 Maccabiah Games men’s futsal squad.

Hakoah Futsal Club – which is part of Maccabi NSW, and has Jewish and non-Jewish players – has a total of five players in the current Futsalroos line-up, the club’s most ever.

TRIATHLON
Second for series

THE 2XU Victorian triathlon series wrapped up with race six last Sunday in St Kilda, where Neil Slonim finished the Olympic distance course in 2:42.24.

That was enough for him to place second in the men’s 66-69 age category, for the race and the series.

Fellow 2022 Australian Maccabiah Games Macman squad member, David Slade, placed 11th in the highly competitive men’s 45-49 group.

NETBALL
Maccabi prepares for big year

The Randwick Netball Association (RNA) 2022 season begins at the end of this month, and Maccabi NSW Netball Club’s preparations are shaping up nicely, in an important year for Jewish netball, with the Maccabiah Games on in Israel in July.

The club fielded teams across the age groups at the RNA’s Club Challenge one-day tournament on March 26, where they put into practice the skills and combinations they’ve developed in pre-season training sessions.

And a group of the club’s senior players recently completed an RNA umpire training course, joining forces with the Double Bay Diamonds, to master important umpiring techniques ahead of the season.

Meanwhile, to help fundraise for Australia’s Maccabiah Games open netball team, Maccabi Netball has put together a top quality range of merchandise, available to purchase, including green and gold Maccabi bike shorts, crop tops and coloured scrunchies that can be ordered online.

Australia are the defending junior and open netball Maccabiah Games champions.

SWIMMING
Wales goes well for Maccabi

Maccabi NSW Swimming Club’s Ruby Wales, 11, was the sole representative of the club at last weekend’s 2022 NSW Junior State Age Championships, held at Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre.

Wales had a memorable performance in the 11 girls’ 50m breaststroke event, touching the wall in 42.44 seconds.

She beat her seed time of 43.04 seconds, to place 24th overall against the state’s best.
