The Ensemble Theatre is thrilled to announce its 2022 season, with 10 exceptional shows by the best Australian and international playwrights, including two special events with theatre legends.

Mark Kilmurry, the artistic director of Ensemble Theatre, said he is elated to open the theatre so people can experience the thrill of live theatre again in a COVID-safe environment, and enjoy eight plays with 44 of Australia’s finest actors.

Ensemble Theatre has proudly commissioned new Australian works, including Vanessa Bates’ fusion of cultures in The One, Sam O’Sullivan’s festive comedy Boxing Day BBQ and Joanna Murray-Smith’s powerful reimagining of Ibsen’s A Doll’s House.

Female voices continue to ring out in A Letter for Molly from emerging Gumbaynggirr playwright Brittanie Shipway, and Anna Zeigler shines a spotlight on an ambitious young scientist in the brilliant comedy Still Unqualified.

Catherine Moore will be part of the 2022 season, as well as Harold Pinter’s The Caretaker and A Christmas Carol, with John Bell playing Scrooge in this new adaptation.

This year The Ensemble Theatre is also hosting two special add-on events with Love Letters, in which Tina Bursill and Andrew McFarlane capture the complicated romance between long-distance sweethearts, as well as a journey through the universal language of song with Helpmann Award-winning Ursula Yovich.

After a tumultuous two years for the live entertainment industry, the 2022 season promises a vibrant celebration of culture, identity and standing up for what you believe in.
