Australia’s ambassador to Israel Ralph King joined Shnat participants at the Australasian Zionist Youth Council (AZYC) mid-year seminar last weekend.

Organised by the World Zionist Organisation (WZO), the Zionist Federation of Australia (ZFA)’s Arava–Australia Partnership and the AZYC, the event brought together 100 Australian “shnatties” from various programs.

“The group of Aussie leaders I met at the AZYC workshop in the Arava represent an impressively wide range of views and backgrounds. But they’re all committed to strengthening the bond between Israel and Australia, and they bring a cheerful enthusiasm to the task,” King said.

In his address, King spoke about economic and political ties between Australia and Israel, Israel’s proposed judicial reforms and answered participant questions.

Head of the Department of Pioneering Youth and Future Generations at WZO, Sergio Edelstein, said the Zionist youth movements are key factors in forming a solid Jewish and Zionist identity.

“We believe that unique seminars such as this one … can better enhance the commitment of our young leaders to the Jewish people and the State of Israel and its future,” he said.

ZFA Israel office director Moriah Ben David said by bringing shnat participants together in Israel, “We planted the seeds for many collaborations into the future.

“It was heart-warming to see them all connecting so easily, and it was inspiring to see their commitment to the broad Jewish community in Australia.”

Arava–Australia Partnership director Rabbi Adam Berman expressed his “profound sense of pride” in the Arava region’s selection as the venue for the seminar.

“The ambassador’s gracious presence at this illustrious event embodies a true testament to the enduring and profound bond shared between Australia and the Arava,” he added.
