Exploring life in Israel
This initiative will offer expert advice, inspiring stories and practical resources directly from Israel.
Aliyah from Australia has reached record levels. It has become a compelling topic in Australia with many Jews exploring the dream of building their lives in Israel.
Many Australians considering the move have questions about careers, education, military service and relocating as families. To address this, the Zionist Federation of Australia (ZFA), the Jewish Agency for Israel and other contributors have joined forces in launching the inaugural Australian Aliyah Series, which will run from November 24 to 28 in Melbourne, Sydney and Perth.
This initiative will offer expert advice, inspiring stories and practical resources directly from Israel.
Between January and October 2024, new olim increased by 24 per cent compared to 2023. The series of events will celebrate olim successes while equipping participants with tools and advice for their own aliyah journey.
Becky Kiper-Fox of the ZFA Israel Aliyah Centre noted, “While rising antisemitism globally has contributed to interest, the dominant motivation is the promise of life in Israel, not the push of negative circumstances.”
Rabbi James Kennard, a recent oleh from Melbourne, added, “Israel is where Jewish destiny is being forged.”
The events will feature a high-profile line-up of inspiring speakers.
They include Alon Katz, a Golani Brigade veteran who transitioned from Melbourne to the IDF through the Garin Tzabar Program, and Eli Parkes, a former Apple engineer and new leader in Israel’s high-tech industry, who will discuss co-founding not-for-profit the Israeli Citizen Spokesperson’s office with globally recognised advocate Eylon Levy.
Lanie Goldberger will share how aliyah transformed her family’s life, while Golan Vach, a former commander of the IDF National Rescue Unit and CEO of Israela, will discuss global aliyah initiatives for families.
The “Pathways & Perspectives” panel will offer practical discussions on careers, integration and family relocation, catering to all ages.
The “Expand Your Network: Journey Your Way” events, designed for young adults 18-plus, include Milk & Honey whisky tastings and meetings with representatives from Hebrew University, advice on Masa funding, Garin Tzabar and more.
The events will take place in Melbourne on November 24, Sydney on November 26 and 27 and Perth on November 28.
“If aliyah interests you, this series provides inspiration and tools to make it a reality,” said Jewish Agency for Israel representative for Australia and New Zealand Orit Elkayam Cohen.
“Don’t miss this opportunity to explore a vibrant future in Israel.”
