Extending a helping hand
Australian Friends of Boys Town Jerusalem is joining the worldwide crowdfunding campaign "Ignite My Future" to assist disadvantaged Israelis.
ALTHOUGH separated by 14,000 kilometres, a group of generous Aussies has decided to extend a helping hand to disadvantaged young boys in Israel, giving them a crucial boost.
Thanks to the generosity of the Australian Friends of Boys Town Jerusalem, students in Israel are receiving much-needed funding to help get their lives back on track.
Ben, 13, is one of the boys who has received support from the recently-established group. After losing his mother, he watched on as his father’s spirit and health deteriorated. During COVID his father lost his job, severely impacting the family. Recently, Ben found his father unconscious following a heart attack.
Ilana Kaplan, Australian development coordinator for Boys Town Jerusalem (BTJ) said, “This shock, plus his dad’s traumatic hospitalisation and rehabilitation, have taken a terrible toll on the youngster’s emotional health.”
Thanks to caring donors, Ben has received a full tuition scholarship, plus extraordinary “extras” that the school provides.
“I’m the lucky Sydney native who is creating the bridge,” said Kaplan, who sees firsthand the crucial help Australian donors are giving to disadvantaged boys, including funding scholarships.
During the last days of Chanukah, on December 5-6, Australian Friends of Boys Town Jerusalem are joining the worldwide crowdfunding campaign “Ignite My Future” to assist disadvantaged BTJ students such as Ben.
All donations made during the “Ignite My Future” 36-hour fundraising effort will be doubled by generous donors.
