YESODEI HaTorah College has recorded remarkable VCE results to come first in the state based on median study score and percentage of study scores over 40, and is joined by four other Jewish day schools in the top 10.

Although not included in the rankings published by the Herald Sun and The Age because they had too small a cohort, Yesodei HaTorah was awarded top spot by the website Better Education.

In only the second year the young school has offered VCE, Yesodei HaTorah had four students complete year 12 this year, and nine enrolled in at least one VCE subject.

The group achieved a median study score of 41, with 57.1 per cent of study scores over 40 – significantly higher than second place, which saw Mac.Robertson Girls’ High School with a median study score of 38 and 38.2 per cent of scores over 40.

“Yesodei HaTorah College’s 2015 graduating class have achieved exceptional results and deserve due credit for this achievement,” said college principal Adam Segal and interim menahel Rabbi Yechezkal Friedman.

“Our true joy and pride comes from the outstanding qualities and middos (attributes) of each of our graduates. They have achieved these results while remaining fully committed to their Torah learning and their lives as Torah observant Jews,” they said in a statement.

The second highest-faring Jewish school was Beth Rivkah Ladies College, which came in third according to Better Education, or second according to the metropolitan newspapers in the absence of Yesodei HaTorah. Beth Rivkah achieved a median study score of 38, with 37.8 per cent of study scores above 40.

Yeshivah-Beth Rivkah (YBR) principal Rabbi Yeshoshua Smukler lauded the impressive results. “At YBR, outstanding VCE results are not the goal but rather simply a by-product of the caring, nurturing and quality educational environment we strive to provide for all of our students,” he said.

Bialik College placed third and fourth, according to the newspapers’ analysis and Better Education respectively, also with a median study score of 38. Their percentage of study scores over 40 was 36.5.

Mount Scopus Memorial College came in sixth according to Better Education, and fifth according to Fairfax and News Corp, with a median study score of 37 and 35 per cent of study scores over 40.

Yeshivah College polled impressively too, coming in eighth in the media tallies, and ninth on Better Education when ranked by median study score. With a median study score of 37 and 23.2 per cent of study scores over 40, they ranked 29th when Better Education ranked according to percentage of study scores over 40.

With Yesodei HaTorah, Beth Rivkah, Bialik, Mount Scopus and Yeshivah Colleges all inside the top 10, Leibler Yavneh College was not far behind, placing just outside the top 10, with a median study score of 36 and 30.2 per cent of study scores above 40.

The King David School achieved a median study score of 35, and with 24 per cent of study scores over 40, ranked within the top 30 out of more than 500 schools in Victoria.
