After finishing in the top four on their ISEC junior cricket regular season ladders, six Maccabi-AJAX Junior Cricket Club (MAJCC) teams played in last Sunday morning’s semi-finals from U13s to U17s.

Even better, four of them won, advancing to this Sunday’s grand finals, including one decider that will be a club derby in the U13 B grade, featuring the Maccabi-AJAX Colts and Giants.

The Colts qualified by dismissing Malvern for only 64 (Callan Matthews 2/6 and Joshua Beebe 2/7) and then coasting to 2/65 (Dean Waters 15)

The Giants made 3/98 (Jessie Lurie 17 not out) versus Carnegie, who were then bowled out for 92 (Sam Weinstein 2/13).

In an U13 Combined semi-final, Maccabi-AJAX set a target of 76 (Nadav Rachmani 52) for Murrumbeena, who were all out for 68 (Sam Reuben 3/20, Rachmani 2/4, Rowan Traub 2/19).

And in the U17B semis, Maccabi-AJAX reached 5/80 off their 24 overs (Brett Jacobs 33, Ben Casper 18) before their bowlers made light work of McKinnon, who were all out for 57 (Nadav Lowinger 4/8, Devon Melzak 2/15).

Despite Jonty Israel (44 not out, and 2/23) starring with bat and ball for Maccabi-AJAX in the U15A semi, they lost by 2 runs to Moorabbin.

And in U13A, the Maccabi-AJAX Chargers were all out for 104 (Miles Rubin 33 not out) in reply to Mackie’s 4/133 (Mitch Goldenberg 2/8).

Club head coach Greg Hurvitz said it was the first time in the junior club’s history that four of its teams have advanced to a grand final in one season.

“This shows the quality of junior players we now have across the club, which is translating into rep opportunities for many.”
