In a show of heartfelt generosity, more than $42,000 was raised within 72 hours for the family of Karina – a single Jewish mother of two teenage boys – who was seriously injured in a car accident in Sydney’s north on November 28.

A close friend and next of kin of Argentine-born Karina, Maria Lopez Quintero, set up a GoFundMe page on November 30 to collect funds on her behalf, as she has no other family members in Australia.

The funds raised will be used to fly Karina’s mother and/or sisters from Argentina to Sydney to provide much-needed support and care for her children while she remains in a serious condition in hospital, as well as covering likely associated costs that are incurred directly due to the incredibly difficult situation.

The car accident occurred along Mowbray Road in Lane Cove.

The family, and Quintero, are taking heart from the generosity of the response by donors so far.

The campaign received a major boost on its first day, when the link to the GoFundMe page was listed on the Jews of Sydney Facebook group by member Ben Hoch, who had met Karina and her children once for Shabbat dinner at a mutual friend’s house.
