The extremist Greens are at it again, following up a Senate stunt where they moved a vote on Palestinian statehood last week with their refusal to back a motion on Monday condemning the defacement of war memorials.

There is no longer any doubt – if there ever was these past months – that this despicable party is not interested in contributing to a cohesive Australia. The Greens are a party that stands firmly on the side of radicals and anarchists.

They cynically wedged Labor’s Fatima Payman with their motion on Palestinian statehood, while voting down an amendment that such recognition should be “as part of a peace process in support of a two-state solution and a just and enduring peace”.

Leader Adam Bandt then used an ABC 7:30 interview to ignore a century of Labor tradition that prohibits crossing the floor and instead level more vile blood libels against Israel, completely misinterpreting the International Court of Justice’s interim ruling in the process.

But as the ECAJ’s Peter Wertheim so succinctly put it this week, refusing to back the war memorial vandalism motion was indeed a new low – not just against Israel or the Jewish community, but against all Australians.

Graffiti in itself is a criminal act. Defacing monuments to our fallen soldiers is beyond the pale. And yet the bilious Greens, who feel a compulsive need to twist and politicise everything, could not bring themselves to say they condemn it.

They would do well to familiarise themselves with the findings of a Sydney Morning Herald poll, published last week, that show only four per cent of Australians believe that damaging property such as electoral offices or statues is a legitimate form of protest.

Only seven per cent believe blockades – another act the Greens have championed or participated in – are legitimate.

The Greens are out of touch with mainstream Australia. Seduced by extreme left causes, they have nothing to offer the nation except for cheap political stunts, division and negativity.

With their stance on Israel and hostility to our community, no wonder countless Jews have left their ranks. We can only hope their stubborn refusal to undertake any kind of introspection will ensure plenty of other Australians follow suit.
