Gearing up for election: JBD candidate forums
The North Shore and Willoughby forum forms part of the JBD series of state election forums aimed at information you about the issues that matter to you.
WITH just over a month to go until the March 25 state election, the NSW Jewish Board of Deputies (JBD) is hosting a series of events with candidates from electorates across Sydney.
The JBD 2023 Election Forums are a rare opportunity to hear directly from the candidates about the issues and topics that matter to members of the NSW Jewish community, and to have your say in an intimate, Q&A-style forum.
Proudly supported by The AJN, the forums begin next Monday night focusing on the North Shore and Willoughby electorates.
The event will hear from candidates for the North Shore: Godfrey Santer (Labor), Felicity Wilson MP (Liberal) and Helen Conway (Community Independent), and for Willoughby: Sarah Griffin (Labor) and Tim James MP (Liberal).
Each candidate will share their election pledges, and answer questions from the audience.
“Next month’s state election comes at a critical time for the Jewish community. Antisemitism is on the rise and our community’s safety and security remains a top priority, regardless of who is in power,” JBD CEO Darren Bark said.

“The board has put together a range of events in the lead-up to the state election, including election forums, town hall-style meetings and luncheons with our senior politicians.
“We encourage all members of the community to come along, ask questions and have your voice heard,” Bark said.
On February 27, Labor leader Chris Minns and key members of his leadership team – including Deputy Labor leader Prue Car, shadow treasurer Daniel Mookhey and shadow multiculturalism minister Steve Kamper – will address an interfaith town hall meeting in Parramatta, co-hosted by the JBD and other faith groups.
On March 8, the JBD will host the Vaucluse and Coogee election forum, featuring candidates for Vaucluse Kellie Sloane (Liberal) and Karen Freyer (independent), and candidates for Coogee Marjorie O’Neill MP (Labor) and Dr Kylie von Muenster (Liberal).
